Psychotherapy abroad
Welcome to psychotherapy abroad!
We provide psychotherapy and counselling sessions in English and Spanish for foreigners living in Lisbon whose mother tongue is not the Portuguese.
Considering the time you live abroad a challenging and enriching one, the language gap can be a difficult and stressful event. We aim at providing a secure and confidential space, that is culturally sensitive, and where you can feel at home.

Rita Gonzaga Gaspar
I graduated in Clinical Psychology (Ispa -1998), specializing in Adult Mental Health and on the benefits of Theatre in the patients' recovery. I complemented my psychology degree with trainings in Systemic Family Therapy and in Art-Therapy.
After some years of working in Portugal and gaining experience in different fields (mental health, homeless and refugee population, domestic violence and children at risk), I accepted the invitation to go to London and run the Portuguese Counselling Service for Portuguese and Spanish-speaking clients and also to be part of the Multi-Ethnic Counselling Service, providing assessments and short-term psychotherapy in an integrative approach.
Still in London, I have completed the Ma in Drama and Movement Therapy (Sesame/ CSSD London 2009) and started working as a drama and movement psychotherapist with a variety of client groups: adults with depression and relationship problems, children with autism and asperger, adults with profound disabilities and psychiatric conditions.
In 2009 I returned to Lisbon and started collaborating with a Day Unit of a Child Psychiatry Service and with the Centre for studies in Music and Infant Communication - LAMCI - at the University of Lisbon. I have been offering training in dramatherapy and movement to other professionals and students and in 2012 I started the project of 30 da Mouraria.
Having been an emigrant myself, I have experienced the advantages of both providing and receiving psychotherapy that was sensitive to the complex process of living abroad and in-between languages and cultures. These experiences and different trainings reflect on an integrative approach to psychotherapy, that I taylor with the client in a co-constructive relationship. This means that it is the psychotherapy that meets your needs, and not the other way around.
If you feel this is what you have been looking for, or if you would like to know more about this type of work, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Anna Grabner
On leaving my Austrian home, I moved closer to the ocean, to Portugal, in 2011. With a passion for music (voice, piano, songwriting) and a background as a practicing psychologist (clinical and health psychologist), I was drawn to the idea of linking the two fields and found an inspiring match in voice movement therapy (VMT). Eager to learn more about this body oriented voice work, I travelled to South Africa where I completed the VMT foundation training in February 2013 and have since become a professional member of the IAVMT (International Association of Voice Movement Therapy).
As a registered voice movement therapy practitioner (VMTR), I have found that the playful nature of VMT encourages people to unfold their personal stories in guided voice movement journeys. My intention is to assist my clients in connecting with their authenticity through movement and voice, inviting them to create their own little poems and life songs.
The combination of my work experiences as a psychologist, a VMTR and voice workshop facilitator has allowed me to accompany and witness many journeys with children, teenagers and adults.
Recently I discovered the beauty of Thai Yoga Massage (Hadadi School of Thai Yoga Massage, L1), which I am now integrating into my voice movement work.
Moreover, since becoming a mother I have begun offering prenatal singing classes and accompanying women and couples in preparation for birth. I feel deeply about supporting mothers in their newly found role and have therefore created “sisterhood song circles”, a safe and empowering space where women can meet regularly to share their experiences in song and dance.
If this resonates with you then please get in touch so that we can arrange a session: http://www.yourvoicemoves.com/contact/
My sessions are offered in English, German or Portuguese. No singing experience is necessary. Please wear comfortable clothing and bring a notebook for your creative material.
